    4-0 out of 5 stars A hunter's perspective
These are the finest field glasses I have ever looked through. The clarity and their ability to collect light in low light conditions are unbelievable. The only, and I do mean only, drawback is their size. Just too big to wear in the field or still hunting. Laid flat on the table they are nine inches across, three and a half inches thick and five and half inches long. While this may not sound so bad, the circumfernce on this set of glasses ranges eighteen and one quarter inches to twenty and one quarter inches, depending on your preferred setting at the hinge, which determines the distance between the oculars. I suppose they could be packed in on a stand hunt, but I won't be using them while still hunting. However, I think they are relatively light for how big they are.

1-0 out of 5 stars Mislead by the 4 Star Rating
I have purchased several pairs of binoculars to use on our ranch where most of our "work" of bird watching and wild mammal viewing is done at 100 to 300 yards.[We own] the 7X42 Tasco and 10X50 Nikon binoculars ...and we wanted a great pair of binoculars with better quality than anything we had.I read the reviews of the Steiner 10X50 Military/Marine binoculars and believed that the Steiner binoculars would be exactly what we wanted. We were extremely disappointed to discover that the Steiner binoculars were hard to focus. Each eyepiece must be separately focused for each 50 yard distance change between 50 and 250 yards. Besides being a nuisance to one user, one pair of binoculars between 2 people is simply impractical especially if the object is moving and only visible for a minute or two.The Steiner Military/Marine 10X50 binoculars did not focus across the entire field of view (if focused in the center, the outside was blurred).Considering the price, we found this poor quality quite surprising. The Tasco and Nikon binoculars costing half as much perform much better and all our guests prefer them.

4-0 out of 5 stars customer review - Real world use of this product.
I've owned this model of steiner binoculars for a little over 9yrs. During that time they have been from the tops of mountains to the bottom of death valley and most places in between, while being exposed to all the elements of nature during my adventures and have yet to let me down.I find them to be waterproof (or at least highly water resistant), rugged, convenient and always dependable. The only reason I don't give them a 5 star rating is that they tend to fog up (slightly) on the external eye piece lenses during cold weather, particularly if I'm overheated from my outdoor activities. Particulars of what I like about them are the rubber coated exterior for the sure grip it gives which doesn't transfer heat or cold to my hands and eyes during use plus it seems to protect them from the shock, drop, bang and bounce tests I've preform'd on them. They are fairly small and light weight (though thats a relative term). I do know they don't give me a pain in the neck from wearing them all day, and still afford me the range/field of view I desire without being cumbersome. I like the fact that once I've focused them for my use they stay that way, whether they've been around my neck while hiking/hunting/boating or I've just grabed them out of the glovebox for a look at something. They are quick on target while giving a wide field of view and perform excellently in low light conditions. Nuff said. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If You Could Only Have One Boating Book, this is the One
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and could only take one CD with you, which one would you take and why? Years ago I used to listen to a program on the BBC that asked famous guests that question, only they said record, not CDs. Well I suppose I'd take Bob Dylan's "Blood on the Tracks" if I were in that fix. And if I were to go to sea on a cruising sailboat and could only take one book with me, it would have to be this excellent, well written book by Mr. Calder. It's big, heavy, expensive and if you need it, you'll be glad you have it and you'll think it's worth it's weight in gold.

5-0 out of 5 stars RV Repair Guide too.
This is a very good book. Too many books only explain what is wrong and then instruct to perform a service without explaining specifically how. This book shows how with lots of illustrative photos and test data and detailed instructions for using test equipment.Practically everything in this book also applies to maintaining RV vehicles and trailers as well. I use it for my boat and RV.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential Reading for Cruisers

5-0 out of 5 stars Accessory
This is a nice accessory to have, if you already own a DeWalt battery pack and the charger.Basically, that would limit my recommendation of this product to those who already own a cordless 14.4 volt DeWalt tool. While the flashlight itself is relatively inexpensive at about $25, the battery pack and the charger are not.The battery pack cost more than $50 apiece.Add the cost of the charger and you get the idea that this is not a flashlight system that you buy on its own. But, if you already own the battery packs and the charger, then spending an additional $25 will get you a very powerful and durable flashlight.

I bought this flashlight because I already own the 14.4 volt XRP drill. The flashlight and drill are sharing the two batteries that came with the drill.

This is a very nice, wide-beam flashlight. The craftsmanship is what you would expect from DeWalt. The light is made of quality materials. And, due to the design and the bottom-heaviness of the battery pack, this flashlight can "stand" on its own.Perfect for those times when you don't have someone to hold the light for you. And, because it throws a wide beam, this unit can illuminate quite a lot of area.I highly recommend this high quality light to those who already own a DeWalt tool that uses the 14.4 volt battery pack.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Durable
I have had two of these flashlights since they first came out (in 1993 or 1994 I think) and we use them constantly! Each light is used an average of 4 times per night to "take the dogs out" in addition to other incidentals.

I love the fact that I can set the flashlight down, the weight of battery holding it in place, and can use the swivel head to direct the light. I have NEVER had a problem with the swivel heads.

These things are very durable. They have been in the dust, dropped from ladders onto semi-hard surfaces a few times, out in the snow and rain, stepped on and knocked over a ton of times - in plain English, just used and abused, but they still keep working!

Battery life on these flashlights is about 3 hours of continuous use and I have changed the bulbs only about 3 times on each light. The light is bright enough to light up the dogs pretty well about 60 to 75 feet away - depending on the battery charge state. When we lose power I set up a couple of the lights in the house and point them at the ceiling to light up the rooms. MUCH safer than candles...

It may sound kind of expensive at a total cost of $94 ($25 per light + ~$60 for a battery + $3 each for the bulbs) but I figure about 1 hour use per day, per light for 10 years (and still counting) results in a cost of just 2.6 cents per hour!!! (not including the electricity cost for the charger). If you already own a Dewalt rechargeable tool, the cost of ownership drops to less than a penny per hour based on my experience. How can you beat that investment???

My only small nit with these lights is the switch can sometimes be hard to turn on. I found that a dab of Di-Electric Grease every couple years on the switch easily fixes that.

If these lights ever die, I would ABSOLUTELY replace them with the same model. Short of a major disaster, I would say these things have at least another 10 years left in them!

5-0 out of 5 stars best flashlight
Ive been an electrician for almost 20 years and this is with outa doubt the best flashlight ive ever used. Only problem is w/me i have lost more than several of these puppies over the years, i tend to leave them in attics. Its not cheap, roughly [money] for the flashlite and [more money] for a battery. Im using a [inexpensive] throw-a-way flashlite @ present, he , he, but will buy another battery and flashlite soon... ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Finally--an underwater camera that's small enough to take anywhere, yet advanced enough to give you high-quality results with easy operation. The Canon Elph Sport camera integrates Elph's crowd-pleasing Advanced Photo System ease of use and portability with a sporty waterproof body. Not only does it take pictures on land at the touch of a button, but it is submersible to 16.4 feet for underwater photography. It's a good bet for vacations, since you don't have to lug around a separate, clunky underwater camera in addition to your point-and-shoot. The Elph Sport easily fills both roles, offering signature Canon quality along with special features designed to make underwater shooting easier.

The Elph Sport features an extra large viewfinder that enables you to frame your shots even with dive goggles on. A special meniscus lens and underwater macro setting account for water's refractive properties and ensure crisp shots. Larger-format controls allow you to operate the Canon Elph Sport even when wearing gloves. Another highlight of this camera is the anticondensation feature that prevents your lens from fogging up in extreme temperatures or moist climates. The Canon Elph Sport also includes a five-mode flash with a special underwater setting and red-eye reduction. This camera uses autofocus on land and has user-selectable focus settings for underwater shooting.

The Canon Elph Sport also incorporates all of the basic features of an APS camera, including easy drop-in film loading, three shooting formats (classic, high-definition HDTV, and panorama), built-in date, time, and caption imprinting on the back of the photo, and print quality improvement (PQI).

Weighing only 7.8 ounces, this camera is so light it will float. It measures 4.1 by 2.9 by 1.8 inches--not much larger than a deck of cards. Its distinctive rounded, translucent green styling is a real eye-catcher. The kit includes a soft nylon case and a foam-rubber neck/wrist strap as well as a one-year warranty. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great camera if you can still find one!
I received this camerera as a prize and would recommend it to anyone. We use this camera as our primary camera for everything!I took it in with me when my daughter was born, snorkeling, fishing, hiking and I have now handed it to my now toddler. If you have had a toddler, they can break anything with the exception of this ELPH SPORT.I have had this camera for 4 years and have nothing but good things to say!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good camera, good value.
My camera has really stood up to the elements and multiple beatings. It has worked well for me taking pictures underwater and in the surf, and has also been to the top of multiple 20,000+ feet mountains.Dropped countless times on rock, snow, sand, and also dunked as much into water.I have learned to force the flash on anything but super sunny days - the pics come out a bit dark in conditions other cameras would have no problem with, and i've found it could really use a filter in intense light situations.Nothing you wouldn't expect from a specialty use camera.Just bought a second spare one for when the first one finally does give up - which i don't think will be for a long time.
    Good camera and good value!

5-0 out of 5 stars Ultimate Combination of Features and Quality
If you are considering buying an APS camera, then you should look no further. Note, however, that APS film is a bit more expensive than regular 35mm film, but it is much more versatile (standard Normal, Group, and Panoramic modes, etc). The reason why this camera so great is most obviously its design. The case is waterproof as well as shockproof. After taking it with me hiking, I tripped three times, each time with the camera in my hand (in its little case), and showed no signs of damage, and still worked great underwater. For me, this is great, as I usually end up losing things in my messy room, and hence they usually get banged around. This camera is durable, and therefore there is no worry. Its waterproofing is great feature, as I am constantly taking pictures on my boat, at the beach, or outside where there is always the chance of rain. You don't have to worry about keeping your camera dry, nor does it become a problem if you leave you bag with the camera in it someplace where it might accidentally get wet. The design is extremely easy to use, and the pictures are great (use 400 speed film, its the most versatile). The only bad thing is that you have to fairly responsible about cleaning the camera after salt-water use. Now, I have never done this, and the camera still works fine. Furthermore, this thing is tiny, suprisingly smaller than the most compact 35mm's. You'll be suprised at how small it is (it's not too small though). It also has bumps on the back to help you grip the camera with one hand. To anyone who is concerned about zoom, on most compact camera, APS or 35mm, they barely make that much of a difference. And to anyone considering going digital, I say just get a scanner. Your picture quality will be much better. Recommended without reservation. Its the kind of camera you can just throw in your bag and never have to worry about. One last thing, when you first put it underwater, you will see bubbles coming out. I was concerned, but found out it was just air on the outside of the waterproofing. ... Read more
