DeWalt DW5PAKV3 18 Volt XRP 5-Tool "Extreme" Contractor's Combo Package
    Tools & Hardware
    list price: $1,490.00
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France

    Editorial Review

In a battle for world domination between the A-Team, the Dukes of Hazzard, and MacGyver, who would win? Our money is on whoever gets this five-pack from DeWalt first.Offering outstanding value and convenient portability, it delivers the tools you need for demo through finish construction.

Lets start with the saws, our personal favorites. The DW938 stands as the fastest reciprocating saw on the market--up to 2,800 strokes per minute. Its power, open-top design for visibility, and comfortable vibration-dampening grips make it easy to use, while its keyless blade clamp takes the chore out of changing worn blades; with a 7/8-inch stroke length and a variable speed trigger, this is one partner you'll be glad to have at your side. Next comes the trim saw, which glides through up to 125 two-by-fours on a single charge. Easily carried to the top of any structure, it's designed for convenience and versatility with a 0- to 50-degree bevel. The jig saw, featuring three-position orbital settings and a sliding shoe, rounds out the trio.

For your drilling and driving needs, grab on to the DW997 hammer drill and bore through masonry, bricks, and boards all afternoon. You'll appreciate its 1/2-inch keyless chuck and high-torque motor when taking on those bigger bits at up to 20,350 beats per minute.

Finally, because one blackened fingernail is embarrassment enough, DeWalt includes the only 18-volt flexible light/lantern on the market. Wrapped around a pipe or beam, stood up on the battery base, or hung from a nearby nail, it casts a wide-angle beam exactly where you need to work.

Each tool features fan-cooled motors to prevent overheating and redesigned, improved battery-locking clips for a more secure fit. Pack up this suitcase and get ready for a campaign of your own. --Justin Paul ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best ready to print pictures camera on the market
I have had a Mavica MVC FD95 for over 4 years now. It uses a diskette for storage. The reason I chose it was the built in flash, the universal ability to print, and the Zooming lense for those great Memphis Zoo panda and other animal pics when they are far away from the viewing area. There might be better cameras, but none are as easy to use and take GREAT pictures.

I love the two viewing areas. I look at the view scrren and see how the picture looks. You can sit at a wedding (I actually did this)and look at the screen and decide to keep or erase the picture. The diskettes are easy to keep in a dess coat at the wedding and change. My pictures looked better than the paid professional ones the couple paid big bucks for!!!! Plus, I did a brief video with the camera of the wedding march (with sound).

My buddy is a camera buff and he has a FD 75, and when I pulled my 95 out, well it psyched him out with the look and the size.

Every development studio and computer accepts diskettes, so it is easy to sent to another person. This is helpful to send by mail. You know those internet phonelines will not sent pictures very fast, and many have limits to the mail size to avoid spam. Just drop a diskette in the mail and grandma with her older clunkier hand-me-down computer can see the pics of the grandkids.

Now for the real techie, you can use the memory stick adaptor. I bought mine remanufactured and didnt get the adaptor for memory stick. It is a great add-on, but not essential. I'll stay with the diskettes, because they are cheaper, easy to get and easy to use in any computer.

One suggestion, get an extra battery. there are used ones and clone ones now that are cheaper ($15-$22.00), so it isn't the big investment it used to be of $35. to $55.00. Sony uses the same battery in numerous products. I found the battery gave out too quick (or I used it too much).Plus, when you use the camera, you will be in a place that a recharge is not possible, and the extra battery is a great help.

My only complaint is the switch from still-to-video-to-play pops too easy from one to the other. It has really played havoc with the pictures. BUT I think that is more all thumbs me and not the camera.

Suprisingly, the price of a 95 has held up well in resale. I paid maybe 60.00 more than it is re-selling for now. That is a perk, if you plan to resell after a set time of use.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Digital Camera
I have had mine for approximately a year now and have had very excellent performance. I have experiance with many cameras, and digital is definately the way to go. The economics of it outways film cameras tremendously. I can hold over 400 photos on 100 floppy disks costing me only about $22.00 per box of 100 floppys. Try doing that with a film camera. And if you miss a shot or make a bad shot, just delete it, their's no waste. The only negitive aspects to this camera is the autofocus is quite slow for action shots, by the time it focuses and snaps the photo, the object is long gone. I have missed many shots due to this, I recommend planning action shots very carefully. The quality of the photos are very good for a 2.1 MP camera, you can make 8x10 photos with relitively good results. But if your looking for the quality like a 35mm film camera has than this isnt for you. And on occasion, you will find a floppy disk that won't format and won't hold any photos, I just ditch them and use another, the cost is very minimal. Overall this is a very good digital camera.

    5-0 out of 5 stars Mavica FD-95
Super shot camera!!!Large enough to get your hands on and feel like a camera. What's more, it uses 3.5" disks to save your pictures on in low res to superhigh res.You can format the disks in the camera and after you have saved the ones to keep you can write on the disks again.I've taken pics of mountain goats and bighorns with the 10 zoom and have edited them with both corel photo and Adobe photoshop programs and have printed them to film quality 8 x 10's. ... Canon 18x50 Image Stabilization All-Weather Binoculars w/Case, Neck Strap & Batteries

    Editorial Review

Canon's 18x50 IS binoculars incorporate an optical image stabilizer for shake-free viewing and minimal eye fatigue. This technology was first developed for Canon video camcorders and is now available in many of Canon's binoculars. The system employs a Vari-Angle Prism, dual transparent plates, independent vertical and horizontal sensors, and a dedicated microprocessor to continuously adjust the prism to maintain a steady image.

The 18x50 IS binoculars feature a water-resistant, shock-resistant rubber coating for a nonslip grip and better durability. If you get caught in the rain and still want to view, you don't have to worry about the optics fogging up. These binoculars deliver high magnification and wide-field viewing. Controls for focusing and image stabilization are centrally located and accessible by both hands. These binoculars provide long eye relief for extra comfort.

    Image Stabilization and More
With any high magnification binoculars, most users will experience frustrating image shake. Unless fixed to a tripod, image shake can render high magnification binoculars useless. Canon's IS technology is remarkably effective at eliminating this problem and is widely used by the television industry with Canon's professional broadcast quality video recording equipment. A special VAP (Vari-Angle Prism) corrective IS system sits between the objective lens group and the porro prism on each side of the binoculars. Within thousandths of a second of the binoculars being moved from their optical axis by vibrations, a detection system activates the IS mechanism. The VAP shape alters to refract or 'bend' the light path by precisely the right amount, thus fully compensating for the vibration. It is this essentially immediate response that effectively suppresses image shake.

    Super Spectra Coating
A number of optical factors affect the brightness of an image, including the amount of incidental light that is reflected by the lens. An uncoated lens will refelect away as much as 8% of the incidentail light, significantly dimming the image. Canon's Super Spectra Coating prevents that reflection.

    What do the numbers mean?
15x50? 8x25? The two numbers used to describe any pair of binoculars are their magnification — 8x, 12x, 15x and so on — and the diameter of their objective lenses — 25mm, 36mm, 50mm, and so on. The larger the first number is, the larger the object will appear to be in the objective lens. For instance, if you use a 10x lens and look at an object that is 100 yards away, it appears to be the same size as an object located just 10 yards away. The second number, the size of the objective lens, is important because the larger the objective lens, the more light it can admit for brighter, more detailed images, and the better suited they will be for lowlight situations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hi-tech solution for the gitters
This is only the second pair of binoculars I've owned but I've used many pairs before from low end to relatively high end ones like Nikons and Leicas.I can say without hesitation that the Canon 18X50s have met all my expectations for clarity, build quality, and ease of use. They are still quite heavy so, you won't be holding them too long in one position but, the stabilization feature provides a stable, gitter free image. In my opinion, this feature makes up for optics that may not be in the same league with the high end stuff: the Canon 18X50s have more usable magnification for the money for non-tripod, hand held applications.

While this is not a scientific comparison, this is an example of the useability and magnification: I was at the beach looking at a parasailer in the distance - with the naked eye (20/20 for the record), I could see the chute pattern and a black speck below it; with my old Minolta 10X50s (jittering in my hands)I could make out shapes of heads and legs; with the Canon 18X50s, I could clearly see two people, a man and a child as well as the chute's cords - pretty impressive.

My only two gripes that have also been mentioned before are: no lense caps and the eye cups are stiff, fit poorly (to my face any way) and are uncomfortable. I find it better to fold the cups back for "eye glass" use even though I don't wear glasses.Other than that, I am very pleased with this purchase and would also highly recommend purchasing from Adorama Camera - they are quick, accommodating and responsive.

4-0 out of 5 stars An Interesting High-Tech Toy
I bought the Canon 18x image stabilizer binoculars a month ago and I love them.

The reason I bought these high-powered binoculars is I want to identify all the major landmarks in the San Jose South Bay area.My wife and I ride up to the mid-hill of Mt. Hamilton once a month. Most of the time before we are ready to turn back and coast down the hill, we spend a fair amount of time looking at the spectacular scenery of the San Jose and South Bay area.We want to identify as many landmarks as possible. With our compact Minolta 10x binoculars, we get a clear look at downtown San Jose and of course the Lockheed aircraft hangers. But we could not find the San Jose airport. With the new Canon binoculars, we can identify the airport and many other places. We can even find the street intersection that is only one street away from where we live. The interesting thing is once we identify a place, we can also use the compact Minolta to see the landmark, although with smaller vision. These Canon binoculars make excellent spotter.

The image stabilizer is an interesting high-tech feature. It helps to get a clear and stable view if you press the stabilizer button. However, the binoculars weight 2.6 lbs.I am tired after holding them for two to three minutes.Last time we rode up Mt. Hamilton, we bought a regular camera tripod with us.These Canon binoculars come with a built-in screw thread that can accept a standard tripod quick-release plate. With the binoculars mounted on the tripod, we spent a good half hour looking down the beautiful landscape. The obvious question is, does the use of the tripod defeat the purpose of paying extra for the image stabilizer? How much something is worth is a very personal question. It differs from person to person.I am not going to attempt to answer this question.

We are very happy to own these binoculars. This is a very pricey toy, but we love it.I first saw the Canon 15x image stabilizer binoculars at Wolf's Camera web site and they have a price tag of around $1,200.I was shocked by the price.I told myself some day I might buy it.A year later, amazon.com was carrying this 18x version at a much lower price.I was overjoyed and broke down and bought this toy the following month.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Binoculars!
I really like these binoculars. Please read the other reviews to gain knowledge on the product's high points. Also note, I have not found any of the low points mentioned to be present or affect my viewing in any way. ... Read more

The Leica Minilux Zoom offers the fastest zoom lens ever put on acompact Leica--the Vario-Elmar 35-70mm zoom lens. Housed in a body of high-gradetitanium, this is one of the most versatile and deluxe compact 35mm cameras evermade. Another feature that makes the Minilux Zoom stand out is a hot shoe mountfor the Leica CF flash unit (sold separately) in addition to the built-in flash. This allows you to reduce red-eye and light up objects from a greaterdistance.

The Minilux Zoom also offers an active infrared autofocus or manualfocusing from about 28 inches to infinity. The exposure metering system iscenter-weighted for extremely accurate exposures. Other outstanding featuresinclude a self-timer with 10-second countdown indicated by a flashing red light, tripod thread, data back for date imprinting, and an exposure value memoryfunction which allows you to calculate your exposure from an object that is notin the center of your picture frame. The Minilux Zoom also has a number ofexposure and focus settings that allow for a great deal of creative control. Itcan even be set to start out on your preferred mode every time you turn on thecamera.

    About Leica
Seventy-five years ago, the first Leica camerawas introduced to the public at the 1925 Leipzig Spring Fair. At the time, itwas by far the most innovative 35mm camera ever produced (as well as one of thevery first). Since then, no camera in the world has been more widely acclaimedfor continuously meeting the highest standards of excellence in both opticalprecision and design quality. Notably, many internationally acclaimedphotographers such as Henri Cartier-Bresson and Sebastião Salgado haveused Leica cameras throughout their careers. We think you'll find that Leicacompact cameras maintain the same integrity as the M and R models used by thepros, but at more affordable prices. The lenses in all Leica 35mm cameras arestill designed by the Leica optical department in Solms, Germany. Every compactcamera is also tested for quality in Germany before being released. 4-0 out of 5 stars Expensive but well worth it...
I'm going to make it very simple. Leica when it comes to cameras is like a Land Rover when it comes to jeeps. Of course you can buy a Cherokee or a Chevy Blazer but if you want reliability, quality and durability you would go for Land Rover. Same goes for Leica... If you are looking for strong, sharp, durable piece of equipment that will not fail you and has possibilities of being expanded, Minilux Zoom is the way to go. You have to realize before purchase that this camera has a relatively short zoom by industry standard (only 2x). Lens is not as fast aperture wise as original Minilux. But the quality of optics and output is superior to many cameras and comparable only to Contax T series. This camera is not for everyone due to the price and some features that are fairly limited for regular/average user. On the other hand for a pro, serious amateur or journalist Minilux Zoom offers features (manual focusing, exposure compensation and full flash control) that they would truly appreciate. Having control over their exposure in such a small package without compromising the image quality is quite rare to get. Anyone who had to drag/carry his/her SLR (single lens reflex) cameras will understand and cherish the value of this piece. Also in order to fully benefit from this camera a basic knowledge and understanding of photography principles is very helpful. Also additional possibilities such as mounting extra flash, bulb mode and cable release makes it an all around camera as well.

2-0 out of 5 stars IT IS THE LENS!!
I have owned both the Minilux and the Minilux Zoom ; I have since resold the Minilux Zoom. The lens is simply too slow compared with the less expensive Minilux which uses a fast (bright) 40mm lens which is much closer to what the eye sees (50mm).I worked for the National Film Board of Canada,I have used many cameras but when I travel I bring only the Minilux because it takes incredible pictures even in the worst low light conditions and even without the flash; I use inside churches and museums with the flash turned off. A zoom this size is simply too slow to be useful, 3 steps forward or three steps back will produce the same result with the Minilux and you will be able to take incredible pictures in those low light conditions. Save your money, buy the Minilux. It's the lens that counts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superp

    4-0 out of 5 stars Great camera...but
I love everything about this camera except I must say to use a tripod. This camera is just awful if you have a shaky hand. You can't take any "real time" shots.

4-0 out of 5 stars What gives it a star less?
First, the bad things. Too much noise shooting under low light conditions. Also in low light conditions you'll find some green and white little points of light on the image.
The camera has an almost useless flash.
The good things: Video option is very useful. Output to see pictures and clips in TV's. Also you can use it if you want a larger view than the LCD display, just plug it to your TV, VCR etc. Great resolution for high quality printing.
If you have some experience in photography you'll find great all the manual options.

4-0 out of 5 stars easy to use, good quality
I spent a lot of time researching digital cameras on the internet and found this one to be a good value. It's fairly compact, and it's lived up to its reputation. The Camedia software makes downloading the photos pretty easy. I just leave the cable hooked up to my computer and attach the camera when I need to download. No need for docking stations. As a digital camera neophite, I'm pleased with my purchase. I leave the 35mm camera at home now. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars my one beef with pioneer...
the "gray bars" that appear on the sides of a standard (square) TV image. Like when a movie is in widescreen, there are BLACK bars on the top and bottom, making the picture ever more viewable. Well, for a widescreen TV, a standard image has those sides to fill, so pioneer decided to have LIGHT GRAY bars which, in theory, make your TV last longer because the projector burns evenly. But this is lame because no matter what projector you buy, your going to have to replace the bulb in 5-7 yrs anyway. I would've gone with a plasma, but if you've ever seen an in-store display with plasma TV's (running all day for a few months), it becomes obvious that plasmas burn out even faster than projectors. Still, there is nothing like watching a movie on my pioneer. It is one of the best ones that you can buy, the image proves that. So, I do love it and opted for the pioneer above a 40" Sony Wega. But, if your going to watch TAPES or play GAMES, get a picture tube that will last 15 yrs. I've owned my pioneer for a year now, and already had to turn up the brightness by 4 notches, which does make black colors suffer. I estimate this TV will last me 5 yrs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mitsubishi, Sony? Don't make that mistake!
I have owned this TV for almost a year now and just recently added the RCA DTC100 (HDTV Reciever) to my system, WoW! You can't do better then Pioneer tv's. Recently I had a visitor to my home and he said "Why is your picture so awsome?". This person spent...more then I did on a Mitsubishi HDTV needless to say he was VERY upset. If you have the chance, BUY ONE! You will not be disapointed...I have had great success with my game console (sony) To bad Pioneer does not make one.

3-0 out of 5 stars Useless for video games
I dont know why would someone buy this television. I wanted a big screen television for a new X-Box console, but you cant use video game systems on ANY projection screen tv because it will ruin it for good, and then you money will go down the tube. This is just a warning for all of you wanting to buy a projection screen tv for a video game system. DONT BUY ONE FOR THAT PURPOSE, otherwise its an ok tv. ... Read more

    1-0 out of 5 stars ...
Yes, Sony IS the best. All my home electronics are Sony, and this is about a good a TV as you can buy. But!, Only 2 days after watching my beautiful TV my picture went Black!! I called Sony and after a huge run around I was told someone will contact me to fix the TV within 48 hours. Well, It was getting close and Superbowl Sunday was 2 days away. So I had a local Sony authorized repair shop come and fix my TV (which they did after 2 hours). Now it's Saturday morning and I'm watching cartoons with my kids and ZAPPO!!! It goes black again. Try to find someone that can repair this TV on the Satuday before superbowl on that moments notice. Didn't happen. Well, anyway, no Superbowl party at my house. Now I sit here and write this on Monday night, 4 days after I called Sony (for the first time) and NOTHING!! No calls, no repairman, NOTHING.
Well, maybe not nothing. I've got my box tuned into a digital music station and I can listen to the nice surround sound system that comes with the set. And that big black omnipotent looking TV does look nice sitting by itself at the end of my livingroom. I'd just like to be able to watch something on it.
Well, I have the repair man that fixed it the first time coming over tomorrow. Wish me luck....

5-0 out of 5 stars It is worth the extra money.
Look I know alot of people are saying why pay extra $$ for the Sony XBR, well the color and quality is 2nd to none. I've looked at all of them and the only one that comes close is the... Pioneer Elite series. I don't want to spend that kind of money to see what I can see on my Sony XBR.
I've owned this TV for a year and a half now and am still impressed with it. And no, I do not work for Sony or any of it's affiliates. Add Direct TV Satellite and your looking at the best picture the industry has to offer.
    Trust Me!

5-0 out of 5 stars Go with the Best: 4 by 3 is still the Best
Get the entire Screen you paid for with this SONY 4 by 3 TV set. The current television market is in a state of flux. We keep hearing about HDTV or High Definition Television but what does it all mean to you? High Definition Television refers to a complete product and/or system with the vertical display of 1080i (interlaced) or higher lines of resolution. The aspect ratio has to be capable of displaying a 16:9 image at the minimum resolution level. (All HDTV is in the 16:9 image). The current standard for color television in the United States is called NTSC (National Television System Committee). It is based on 525 horizontal scanning lines capable of displaying a 4:3 image. Many cable companies are resisting the change to HDTV and want to carry only the NTSC standard. The FCC wants the networks to start broadcasting HDTV but they are now also resisting because they can't settle on a conversion system. Currently satellites are carrying a few HDTV signals, but they are far and few in number and show little signs of increasing. Don't forget HDTV signals have to be converted so you can watch them. Then you have Television manufactures that are getting way ahead of themselves. Many are pushing the HDTV formatted screen on most of their projection sets, which is 16:9. If you are still watching cable TV, VHS videos and Laser Discs you are in big trouble. You are only going to get a picture in the center of your 16:9 set with big black bars on the sides. The best way to go is with a 4:3 projection set, like this one, which is going to give you the full frame. You are going to get the entire screen you paid for. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Bandleader and inventor Fred Waring introduced the first blender in 1936; more than 60 years later the Waring blender remains the standard for the field. Tall and old-fashioned looking with a plated metallic finish on its base, this blender will crush ice and blend frozen fruit beautifully in a few seconds. This blender feels sturdy: the lid, with a cap that doubles as a 1-ounce measurer, fits securely, and the pitcher, made of thick, ridged glass, won't wobble. Many chefs prefer a blender rather than a food processor for soups and creamy sauces--the blades of a good blender whirl more quickly than those of a food processor and will refine a thin liquid such as cream of tomato soup to an incomparably silky texture. This blender is definitely up to that task. The fixed, self-cleaning stainless-steel blades on the base of the pitcher mean the lid is the only separate part to wash. --Maria Dolan ... Read more

KitchenAid KTA-KPCB348PPM Pro Line Chef's Blender with Polycarbonate Jar, Pearl Metallic

5-0 out of 5 stars The blender of the 4 I've owned in the last 2 years.
I make smoothies every morning, and so I wear out blenders fast.I've had this one for two weeks, and I *love* it -- it is way better than the Oster and Cuisinart models that I have gone through.

This is the easiest to clean, least messy blender I have owned. In particular, having the blade and gaskets as part of the glass jar is a huge plus for not allowing any leaks to seep out at all, and for making this extremely easy to clean.

I also love how quiet this is compared to other blenders of the same power ratio.Note well, I'm not saying this is all that quiet, but compared to the others, it is not as loud as they are.(You still wouldn't want to be on the phone while blending.)

Also, this blender does a better job at circulating the contents than the other blenders I've had -- so that even in just 10 seconds of blending, all my frozen fruit is cut up.In the Oster blenders I've had, even after 30-40 seconds there are sometimes big chunks.

The only bad thing I will say about it is that the jar isn't huge, but I still give it 5 stars because the jar is big enough for smoothies and for margaritas, and it does a better job than any other blender I've used.I love how cleanable it is in the dishwasher too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Much better than the Kitchenaid
I had a Kitchenaid blender quit on me(second time with the same problem) and found out that they have changed the style and don't make replacement parts for my model.I would have had to buy an entire new blender. From the looks of it, they didn't make the new ones any more robust so I decided to look at other brands.Stumbled across Waring and did a little research.Found out that Waring sells every part for every blender that it has made in the last 60 years. That level of support combined with the favorable reviews led me to take the plunge. After eleven weeks with my new blender, here are my observations:

Noise - I think this one is slightly quieter than my Kitchenaid and definitely quieter than my parents old Oster.Even so, don't plan on trying to watch TV or carry on a conversation with the thing running.Luckily it does it's job pretty quick.

Cleanup - FAR better than the kitchenaid. No disassembly required; just put some hot water and a little dish soap in and run it a few seconds.Rinse and you're done.Dishwasher safe if you feel like it too.Kitchenaid has the jar, lid, jar base, blade assembly, and gasket to fool with.Lots of crevices for food to get stuck in.

Performance - Simply a better performing blender.Blends drinks to a much smoother consistency with no big ice chunks left behind. With the Kitchenaid I frequently had to pop the lid off and give things a stir to get them mixed up and worked down to the blades.I rarely have to do that with the Waring.I don't have anything scientific to back this up, but I think it is a matter of geometry. The Kitchenaid is a wide, squat jar where the contents seem to be able to find refuge from the whirling blades. The Waring is taller & skinnier and it seems that nothing gets away from the blades. The Waring has only two speeds while the Kitchenaid had five, but I don't really miss them at all.I haven't found anything the Kitchenaid could do that the Waring can't do at least equally well.

Durability - The problem I had with the Kitchenaid was the blade assembly. The metal "gear" on the bottom is a press fit onto the shaft that connects to the blade. When this loosens up (such as when an ice cube jams up the blade) there is no way to repair it.New assembly costs about $15.If the Waring had a similar failure, the thing does come apart, the replacement part is about $4, and it is widely available.Other than this, they both seem to be durable and rugged. The glass jars on both are thick and sturdy, and they really give the blender some mass.

So far I've had my blender 11 weeks and have been using it mostly to make frozen drinks and milkshakes. The Waring is by far superior to the blender it replaced. It looks great, performs nearly perfect, and comes from a company with an excellent reputation and parts support. Can't ask for much more than that. ...
