Lexar Media 512 MB 40X CompactFlash Pro by Lexar Media Average Customer Review: Electronics list price: $139.97 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Features Reviews (14)
However, the USB card reader that comes with this Lexar card is NOT compatible with other brands of flash cards! It works fine with the Lexar card, but DOES NOT WORK with other brands such as my Sandisk or Canon cards.Keep in mind that if you have a USB 2.0 port, and a USB 2.0 device, your photos will transmit from your camera to your computer MUCH faster.(And most digital cameras are still the older USB 1.1, so a card reader makes a huge difference in transfer time.) ... Lexar Media FireWire CompactFlash Digital Film Reader (RW011001) by Lexar Media Average Customer Review: Electronics list price: $119.99 US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France Editorial Review Lexar Media's FireWire CompactFlash digital film reader makes moving files from your camera to your computer easy--just pop in a CompactFlash card and go. The FireWire connection makes connecting and disconnecting simple, as FireWire allows insertion and removal of the reader without rebooting. Its small size lets you throw the cable in your bag with your camera and connect to your PC wherever you need to. The reader easily connects to your computer through your IEEE 1394 port and requires no external AC power. You can use your batteries for taking more pictures with your camera instead of transferring images to your computer. The FireWire digital media reader is up to four times faster than using a USB film reader, achieving high-speed transfer rates of up to 400 Mbps. This is especially important when you are trying to download many digital-image files to your computer. The reader supports Type I and Type II CompactFlash cards. System requirements for Windows PCs include a Pentium-compatible processor; Microsoft Windows 98 SE, 2000, or Me; and one available IEEE 1394 port (6-pin connector). Requirements for Macintosh computers are Mac OS 9.0 or later, a built-in FireWire port, Apple FireWire 2.4 or later, and a CD-ROM drive or equivalent. Lexar covers this product with a one-year limited warranty and offers free technical support. ... Read more Features Reviews (17)

The isues that I have had: -it does crash in XP when using the right mouse click to "open file with"...it works much better if the program is opened first and then the file is opened ...I haven't upgraded my Mac yet, so I'm not sure if the situation with be the same on the OSX platform. - this is very minor but the pixel aspect ratio is set for video when I open a Bitmap-TIFF...it's a file type that the computer somehow sees as a preview for video, but it's a simple fix - just change the pixel aspect ration view back to square...I must admit the first time it happened and my image loaded looking all squished, I got that curious dog look on my face, cocked my head to the side wondering "what the heck is this?" - Some of my files which are 250MB working in 7.0 seem to be exploding to 400MB in CS... this is something which I haven't been able to trace or figure out just yet, but it does cause significant problems for working speed...I only have 1.3GB of RAM which is fine for a 250MB drawing but not sufficient for a 400MB drawing.I'll have to delve deeper into the software to see if I can figure this one out. Overall, it seems like a fine upgrade, but as with most upgrades there are some issues/surprises when you make the switch.

- The sleek aluminum chassis and the wide screen generate Wow! effect. About software compatibility (from EE guy's viewpoint): - There are tons of open source programs you can use: GIMP, A/G BLAST, ... As much as I enjoy steering this elegant silver machine, I love to navigate through the Mac OS X. As Sun's Bill Joy said during an interview, "Mac OS X is rock solid". I like the idea of using UNIX commands on my Mac, although I can do everything with the user-friendly Mac interface. Yes, Powerbook is more expensive compared with Dell and other PCs, but you get what you pay for: top-quality components, futuristic functionality, eye-catching design, and the enormous joy of owning a rock-solid elegant machine (like BMW!). You'll definitely like this one!
