5-0 out of 5 stars The best and most thrilling sub novel of all time
If you've seen the movie, but want the details, get the book. The book is dense, but very readable. It is easily in the top five of cold war fiction novels.

3-0 out of 5 stars I am not so sure about Clancy.
Clancy does not rate very well in my opinion. He does have good stories, but I have found only a few that were developed well. This book is no exception, although I would probably give it 3.5 stars if possible. It is a great idea for a story, but it could have been developed better. Shortly into the book, Clancy goes off into a long, detailed account of the life history of one of the main characters. It is nice to know some of the info, but he puts in much unneeded information. Later he does almost the same with another, non-major character. It wasn't near as long, but you didn't need very much of the info at all with it being one of the less major characters.
It isn't too important, but it is rather disturbing because the action is just getting going when he suddenly goes off in an unexpected and partly unneeded direction.
Even so, this was a pretty good book and I would reommend it. It had plenty of action and unexpected happenings. It is definitely a "page-turner" kind of book. Read and enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Two Thumbs Up!
The highly decorated Soviet sub commander Marco Ramius is in charge of the Red October, the new nuclear submarine with a propulsion system that allows it to be utterly silent to sonar. However, Ramius has had a growing discontent with the Communist party ever since his wife died due to medical mistakes and has planned to defect ever since.
Knowing how silent his submarine is, he sends a message to the Kremlin explaining his plans to defect, taunting them to send the entire fleet after him.The United States then hears from the USSR that Ramius intends to start a nuclear war with the submarine, prompting the United States to aid the the search.Jack Ryan, and CIA analyst, figures that Ramius plans to defect and although his ideas aren't believed, he is still sent to a small group of submarines to find out what Ramius' plans are.Now with both America and the USSR after the Red October, one of the most fantastic chases ever known is on.
This is a book hard to put down.At the beginning it might seem slow since there would be character developments that would take 10 pages or more and everything would seem to be scattered all over the place. It rewards the patient readers though because as you go along, the situation gets tenser and quicker and everything seems to come together at the end.
I would recommend this book to young adults and up who would like a thriller war story. It's isn't a great book for younger kids because of its complexity and it has bad language every so often. ... Read more

A very revealing book that is so easy to read. It is one of the best poker books in the market. Fools Die, Disciples of Fortune are titles, which show that life is a gamble.Revealed a lot about the game.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pays for itself
I am relatively new to card-room limit hold'em.The book provides valuable instruction on card-room etiquette as well as a winning strategy specifically taylored for low-limit games.

The author gives the novice a lot to think about (maybe too much all at once) but if you are too tight a player (as I was), you can fairly easily adopt the author's strategy in a step-by-step fashion that you are comfortable with.

The author gives excellent advice on the subtleties of the game such as the importance of position, pot odds, and how to get "free" cards. These things help you know when it is in your interest to loosen-up your play.

I played 3/6 hold'em the night after I finished the book.I typically throw away small pairs (22-99).However, on advice from the author I called three times on the button with a small pair when at least 5 people were in the pot.The odds of making the set are poor but, as the book explains, the amount of money in the pot makes your $3 bet worth it.Twice I didn't make the set on the flop and lost $3, but once I flopped the set and raked in $62.The point is: I never would have known this strategy without the book.It paid for itself the first night I put it into practice.

Buy it and start dominating your local low-limit table.

    Editorial Review

Finally--an underwater camera that's small enough to take anywhere, yet advanced enough to give you high-quality results with easy operation. The Canon Elph Sport camera integrates Elph's crowd-pleasing Advanced Photo System ease of use and portability with a sporty waterproof body. Not only does it take pictures on land at the touch of a button, but it is submersible to 16.4 feet for underwater photography. It's a good bet for vacations, since you don't have to lug around a separate, clunky underwater camera in addition to your point-and-shoot. The Elph Sport easily fills both roles, offering signature Canon quality along with special features designed to make underwater shooting easier.

The Elph Sport features an extra large viewfinder that enables you to frame your shots even with dive goggles on. A special meniscus lens and underwater macro setting account for water's refractive properties and ensure crisp shots. Larger-format controls allow you to operate the Canon Elph Sport even when wearing gloves. Another highlight of this camera is the anticondensation feature that prevents your lens from fogging up in extreme temperatures or moist climates. The Canon Elph Sport also includes a five-mode flash with a special underwater setting and red-eye reduction. This camera uses autofocus on land and has user-selectable focus settings for underwater shooting.

The Canon Elph Sport also incorporates all of the basic features of an APS camera, including easy drop-in film loading, three shooting formats (classic, high-definition HDTV, and panorama), built-in date, time, and caption imprinting on the back of the photo, and print quality improvement (PQI).

Weighing only 7.8 ounces, this camera is so light it will float. It measures 4.1 by 2.9 by 1.8 inches--not much larger than a deck of cards. Its distinctive rounded, translucent green styling is a real eye-catcher. The kit includes a soft nylon case and a foam-rubber neck/wrist strap as well as a one-year warranty. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great camera if you can still find one!
I received this camerera as a prize and would recommend it to anyone. We use this camera as our primary camera for everything!I took it in with me when my daughter was born, snorkeling, fishing, hiking and I have now handed it to my now toddler. If you have had a toddler, they can break anything with the exception of this ELPH SPORT.I have had this camera for 4 years and have nothing but good things to say!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good camera, good value.
My camera has really stood up to the elements and multiple beatings. It has worked well for me taking pictures underwater and in the surf, and has also been to the top of multiple 20,000+ feet mountains.Dropped countless times on rock, snow, sand, and also dunked as much into water.I have learned to force the flash on anything but super sunny days - the pics come out a bit dark in conditions other cameras would have no problem with, and i've found it could really use a filter in intense light situations.Nothing you wouldn't expect from a specialty use camera.Just bought a second spare one for when the first one finally does give up - which i don't think will be for a long time.
    Good camera and good value!

5-0 out of 5 stars Ultimate Combination of Features and Quality
If you are considering buying an APS camera, then you should look no further. Note, however, that APS film is a bit more expensive than regular 35mm film, but it is much more versatile (standard Normal, Group, and Panoramic modes, etc). The reason why this camera so great is most obviously its design. The case is waterproof as well as shockproof. After taking it with me hiking, I tripped three times, each time with the camera in my hand (in its little case), and showed no signs of damage, and still worked great underwater. For me, this is great, as I usually end up losing things in my messy room, and hence they usually get banged around. This camera is durable, and therefore there is no worry. Its waterproofing is great feature, as I am constantly taking pictures on my boat, at the beach, or outside where there is always the chance of rain. You don't have to worry about keeping your camera dry, nor does it become a problem if you leave you bag with the camera in it someplace where it might accidentally get wet. The design is extremely easy to use, and the pictures are great (use 400 speed film, its the most versatile). The only bad thing is that you have to fairly responsible about cleaning the camera after salt-water use. Now, I have never done this, and the camera still works fine. Furthermore, this thing is tiny, suprisingly smaller than the most compact 35mm's. You'll be suprised at how small it is (it's not too small though). It also has bumps on the back to help you grip the camera with one hand. To anyone who is concerned about zoom, on most compact camera, APS or 35mm, they barely make that much of a difference. And to anyone considering going digital, I say just get a scanner. Your picture quality will be much better. Recommended without reservation. Its the kind of camera you can just throw in your bag and never have to worry about. One last thing, when you first put it underwater, you will see bubbles coming out. I was concerned, but found out it was just air on the outside of the waterproofing. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Voyage of Discovery
Guinness World of Records is a Fascinating Voyage of Discovery to facts, figures, feats and lots more! It's amazing to know about the Greatest, Smallest, Heaviest, Tallest, fastest, first and all about the exceptionally 'The Best of the Best'.As far as I remember, the First US edition appeared in New York in 1956 followed by editions in various languages later like the French, German in around 1962/63 and other editions in Japanese, spanish, etc. taking the flight to more than 250 plus editions in various languages. Indian dish 'Dhosa' by Sankalp in Ahmedabad, as the longest and largest size, is also on the Food Category which itself is Hall of Fame in Guiness World Records with more and more records to amaze us. Another Hotel Crown Plaza from Ahmedabad too, is featured for the Biggest Menu. The Book is divided into Categories on various topics with unique occurences and interesting peculiarities. Watching Guinness World Records on Television & Ripleys is just Great viewing but reading and possessing the Book is a Prize Collection. I recommend such Books as they make a good Useful Book Shelf Possession.

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST conversation starter that I know of!
I love to have a copy of the Book of World Records handy whenI knkow I may need help starting a comversation. All I have to do is open up the book and start asking questions to someone, like "Hey, guess who was 8 ft. 11.1 in. tall?"

Within minutes the ice is broken.Even though I don't always buy a copy every year, I eventually update.I can't stand to be estranged from the current record-holders.
