2-0 out of 5 stars CF CARD ERROR!
I have a Cannon S45 and loved the card up to the point it died. I was on Lake Tahoe for a friends wedding and had taken countless pictures and videos. All of a sudden, the camera froze up. The CF card error pops up and that's it. I've had 2 friends try the card in their cameras and the same thing happens... so I know it's not the camera. I won't buy another Viking....

3-0 out of 5 stars works fine - rebate stinks
They have a "15 days after invoice date" rule. Amazon wasn't able to get the unit to me until at least the 16th day. (don't know for sure because I was away for 6 days starting on the 15th day).
Their rebate adminstrator denied the Rebate. I am arguing it now and may win yet. But I will never buy from them again based upon a rebate price. What really p_____s me off is that the Amazon price today, WITHOUT a rebate, is what I was supposed to pay net, 6 months ago.

The memory works fine and it is really nice to have a capacity of 300+ pictures in my finest resolution. A lot better than carrying a laptop on a fun vacation just for downloading.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't fall for a rebate rip-off!
This card is performs identically to every other CF card I own - Lexar, Sandisk, Simpletech, and Mr. Flash.

The only reason I chose this one over others was that they offered a rebate on the purchase. I've seen Viking offer this rebate several times.

Ordered the card from Amazon, then sent in all the proper rebate forms, proof of purchase, etc.

Months later- no rebate.

Since then, I've read several complaints about the viking rebate program.

So- watch out! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars good solid card/brand
I have a 2 megapixel canon elph and own two other CF cards, (Sandisk 64mb and Fuji64mb) Reason I got another CF card was the price as of Feb 2003, was the lowest I've seen ever, and I did abit more research than before. check dpreview.com they have a section of CF card ratings and this particular card did very good, as far as speed and reliability.

I did my own amateur testing and noticed "slight" differences, the Viking and Sandisk cards were abit faster in taking multiple shots. (but this is a matter of miliseconds) reliability, I have had the two other cards for about 6 months and have not had a problem with data loss of any kind. On my 2 megapixel camera, the Viking 128mb CF card shot about 360-400 images "high quality" (depending on image size, each image can be a different file size, depending on the information each one requires)

So, I would just stick with a big name like Viking or Sandisk and you really cant go wrong.

5-0 out of 5 stars Zab
I love this card. I keep my Canon Digital Elph S110 set on the highest resolution/highest quality and have never filled this card up on a weekend trip. One day I took 120+ pictures, it is so easy to delete the ones you don't want afterwards. With the holidays and longer trips coming up I am purchasing a second 128mb card to double my capacity, you can't beat this price.... I also have the Viking card reader to speed up downloading and save wear and tear on the camera. I am very pleased with it. It works just like an external hard drive... It was a good deal then andit is an even better value now. Go with it! The best thing is thatyou will have comfort in knowing that you have the capacity to takethe pictures when you need to (you'll not miss out on those preciousmoments that will never repeat themselves). END

5-0 out of 5 stars Meets my needs
I recently purchased a Nikon Coolpix 2100 and bought this card for extra storage. At the 2 MP high setting, this card holds about 130 pictures. At the next lowest setting, it holds well over 250. For me, this is PLENTY of storage. Some people mentioned compatibility issues with the Coolpix, but this was not the case for me. You just need to make sure you format the card in the camera before its first use. Overall I think Viking makes a product which, for the price, is the best value on the market. Buy this card, you won't be disappointed. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Do the math.
I use CompactFlash for my digital cameras, and I've become a fan of the Viking brand. However, I still buy by the dollar-per-meg calculation. Currently, this number should always be less than 2. It is curious to note that the prices on these cards are fluctuating almost daily, and by as much as 20% in one day! I suggest you find the card you want and track it a while. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 64MB card - 155 pictures for a 1MP Kodak DC240 camera
Well, I had no idea how much room a 1 MP picture would take up on a CF card. I know it is a combination of compression and format, but I never really did the math.

GREAT PRICE: I bought this card, number one, because the price was great. Now the price is even greater when you get it for about 2MB for $1.

NUMBER OF PICTURES THAT CAN BE STORED:
155 in a DC240 with 1MP.
55 in a DX3900 with 3.1 MP.
I never knew the MP versus MB formula, this practical application helped me out. I understand however, much depends on your compression and format. This was all .jpg files and on Kodak cameras.

SEEMS COMPATIBLE FOR PDA AND PC:
I know one of the concerns on these cards is compatibility. Since I have had it, I have put it in an @migo Pocket PC, on the PCMCIA card on an IBM laptop and a Kodak DX3600 and a HP315. It worked great.

Nice card and a nice size, I'm set for awhile now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great value and good performance
I've used Viking components in the past and never had any negative experiences with their products. When I got a digital camera, I shopped the local computer and mall stores for Compact Flash memory cards before turning to Amazon.com. I was pleasantly surprised to find an affordable Compact Flash card in the capacity I was looking for made by Viking. The card works great with my Kodak digital camera and Sandisk CF reader. A top notch product at an affordable price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
I ordered this but something happened and I got a 128 mb chip instead. Either way its great been using it for a few years now and I've had no problems. ... Read more

Canon PowerShot S300 2MP Digital ELPH Camera Kit w/3x Optical Zoom
Average Customer Review: 4.7 out of 5 stars

Editorial Review

The PowerShot S300 is Canon's long-awaited follow-up to the wildly popular S100. Not content to rest on their laurels, Canon has spent the time to address some of the shortcomings in the original Digital Elph camera.

The biggest new feature is the 3x optical zoom. While only a small step up from the original 2x, the new zoom requires a slightly enlarged body. Also added is a movie mode. The new movie mode allows up to 30 seconds of footage to be recorded at a resolution of 160 x 120. You can also record at 320 x 240 or 640 x 480 resolution, but the recording time shortens correspondingly.

The diminutive 1.5-inch color LCD screen remains small. However, the control scheme is slightly modified to incorporate the camera's new capabilities--a wheel now controls the camera mode and has a power button in its center. The S300 includes several white-balance presets, exposure compensation of +/- 2 EV in 1/3 EV increments, and a black-and-white mode. Essentially, the S300 is a classy digital point-and-shoot with enough features and control for most hobbyists. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Canon Digital Elph S300
I was actually looking at a competitors camera (Nikon 885) and was torn between the S300 and Nikon 885. Both were the same price, and the Nikon 885 was a little more powerful (3.0 meg vs. 2.1)

However, I started reading a lot about issues people had with the 885 (oversaturation of red color in photos, software locking up their PCs, etc.). Two coworkers had the S110 (older Elph model) and loved it. I saw some of their photos and knew the S300 was the way to go for me.

I've had the camera for a week now, and I am impressed. It has a durable feel to the camera, not some cheap plastic that feels like it will crack if I'm not careful. The clarity of the pictures is fantastic, and it comes with a battery and charger included.

If you decide to purchase this camera, do yourself a favor, and get a larger memory card (64MB or higher). The prices have dropped significantly. Buy an extra battery too if you can.

If you want a small camera, that will just about fit in your pocket, takes great pictures, and has just enough enough manual features that will keep most people happy, then get this camera.

I'm happy with my purchase.

Pros:
Great pictures
Battery and charger included
Durable construction
Panoramic mode is great and easy to use
Movie mode W/ sound
Some manual features
Small in size

Cons:
8mb CF card too small
Flash could be a little more powerful
Slightly pricey for a 2.1 megapixel camera

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Camera
I did a lot of research online, I knew I was paying more for the size and style, but I haven't been dissappointed. This camera takes great pictures. My wife and I have taken over 700 pictures (we have a new baby) and we have been very pleased with the results. I took the advice of others on the site and skipped the costly AC adapter. We have one spare battery and keep it charged. You have little warning when the battery is going out.

We bought a flash reader and a 64MB card (we never use the card that ships with the camera). We get about 100 photos on the factory default image settings, 1600x1200 and Fine resolution. That works well even for our new parent photo appetite.

A couple extra points, after having this camera for about a week, I dropped it on a tile floor Ouch! and it landed on the extended zoom lense Ouch! Ouch! That's a feeling I never want to relive, but... Although the inner most part of the zoom was jammed against the outer barrel, I gently dislogged it, turned the camera on and off a couple times to get the lense to retract and extend. The camera issued an error code once, before the lense had fully readjusted, but since then it has been working perfectly. I consider it to be pretty rugged despite it's small size. I suggest using the included wrist strap. Before this incident I had mostly used it as a convenient way to pull the camera out of my pocket.

I like the automatic lense cover, the panorama feature works well and is fun to play with, the movie feature is a lot more useful than I expected, the clips are of good quality, and are convienient to put on a web page or e-mail someone with broadband net access. We have a digital camcorder, but this is more convenient for web clips. 3X zoom is something I would not be without now that I've used it. Sometimes it's not convenient to get closer to your subject.

I was concerned that I might be overpaying, especially vs the new S110 which has most of the same features, other than the zoom, but I can say I have been very happy with the purchase.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great work horse before you reach for your slr.
Good camera, easy to use, handy. Limited flash, and don't try to use an aux flash. The unit flashes 2x, to determine the correct exposure, thus firing an aux flash, and when the exposure flash is firing, the aux isn't. Anyone found a solution? ... Read more
